There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t get a DM about someone’s DUTCH test or hormone blood work that shows a hormone imbalance and then asking what they should do about it.
I cannot answer these DM’s (not safe for you or me), but if I did, my first question would be WHY? Why is that hormone imbalance present? We have to get away from treating the exact hormone imbalance, or we will be chasing symptoms forever.
The key is to look deeper, and the best and most effective place to look is at mineral status. Let’s take a deeper look at how mineral imbalances cause hormonal chaos:
1. Thyroid and metabolism slow down.Energy Production requires minerals. As minerals like magnesium and copper become depleted, our ability to make ATP (the body’s main energy source) decreases. Less energy production = slower thyroid. Step 1 to hormonal chaos.
2. Digestion is compromised, and liver burden increases. As thyroid and metabolism slow, important processes like stomach acid production do as well. This leads to a slow down of transit time, constipation, bloating, and increases the burden on the liver. Our liver also requires minerals to detoxify properly. This sounds like a recipe for hormone problems because it is.
3. Adrenals become exhausted & impact hormone production. As minerals become depleted, adrenal function slows, and the ability to respond to stress appropriately declines. This can then impact hormone production and how we utilize hormones in the body. This can also impact how we make and use thyroid hormone, which is essential for healthy hormone levels.
