It’s no secret that pregnancy is a huge event for your body—probably one of the biggest physical events you’ll ever put it through. Which is why, like anything else in life, it’s important to prepare.
According to Dr. Robert Thompson, MD, each pregnancy drains 10% or more of a woman’s total body mineral supply: “As the baby grows, it draws minerals from Mom’s body. Over the course of a 265-day pregnancy, the baby takes about [4 lbs] of minerals from the mother or about [10%] of her total mineral supply.”
That’s pretty insane, even for an optimally healthy woman. Then consider any deficiencies or imbalances already present in the body—and how that can impact a pregnancy or postpartum experience.
You can see now why this is so important. Here are the areas we recommend clients consider before TTC:
1. Am I eating enough calories and balancing my macros with every meal/snack? Am I eating enough nutrient-dense foods?
2. How is my metabolism and thyroid function? (This is where testing comes in—see Slide 5!)
3. What is my micronutrient status?
4. Are my hormones balanced, and can I accurately track my cycle? What is my cycle telling me? (How long is it, is my period regular, when do I ovulate, etc.?)
5. Do I have my stress dialed in?
6. What movement am I prioritizing (strength training, cardio, stretching, etc.) and how is it impacting my pelvic floor health?
Feeling a little overwhelmed by all of this? Take a deep breath, tell yourself it’s about empowering yourself with knowledge and tools—not perfection—and give this podcast episode with @innatefertility a listen. It’s a great resource of all things preconception planning.
reminder: i’m currently taking on 1:1 clients. if you’d like to explore what it would be like to work together and if we are a good fit, fill out this form to get more details!
