Pelvic floor issues are more common than you think, and they often appear as symptoms that society has normalized in women:
-urinary leaking while exercising, sneezing, or laughing
-pain during sex (doesn’t have to be this way)
-constipation/hemorrhoids (yes, this is often related to a tight pelvic floor, amongst other things)
These symptoms are common but not normal. @expectingpelvichealth educates us on why they are not normal in this podcast episode. She also digs into Kegels.
One of the biggest mistakes women make when it comes to pelvic floor health is only doing Kegels. Kegels tighten and hold things in, but they do not lengthen. Our pelvic floor is a muscle and needs to be both lengthened and strengthened. When we skip lengthening, we can end up with tight muscles and pelvic floor issues.
One of the biggest takeaways I hope you have from the podcast episode is pelvic core breathing. This is a great place to start when it comes to supporting your pelvic floor.
Other topics we covered are endometriosis and infertility. When it comes to endo, there are certain types of bodywork that you can do to your pelvic floor to help reduce symptoms of pain.
One of the most fascinating topics we covered was mechanical infertility. Did you know that your pelvic floor health can impact implantation?
This podcast episode is packed with helpful information!
