Balancing working and being a mom isn’t easy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have the honor of being a mother of two amazing girls and I also get to help women thrive in their health. Both are very important to me and something I strive to be better at every day. Pouring into others can be very fulfilling but also requires us to pour into ourselves. I am often asked how I balance it all. I don’t have a perfect answer, I just know what works for me in this season of having two small children. Here are three of my nonnegotiables when it comes to filling my cup.
Notice I say regular and not daily. I aim to journal every morning but sometimes there’s a sick baby or a toddler that needs me and things shift. I typically get it in four days a week and while I may not always want to get up and get going early, I notice a big difference when I do. I’m honestly usually woken up between 5:30 and 6am by my youngest and then will journal after I get her fed and changed while she plays. I went through Tessa Romero’s Alignment Journaling course and cannot recommend it enough. It’s specifically for moms and I just love everything she shares and her encouragement. It’s about shifting our mindset but so much more powerful than most journaling techniques. Her process doesn’t just include positive statements, but also incorporates a lot of mental practice where you are putting yourself in situations and reflecting on how you want to handle them as the person you want to be. This has been the most life changing for me since it allows me to not only have more patience and be a better mom and wife but also has helped me mentally in dealing with having an online business and using social media so much.
I strength train three days a week typically after my husband gets home from work (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Sometimes I’m alone and sometimes I have a child with me. I get it done no matter what and I always feel good after. It helps support my mental and physical health. It’s something I’ve enjoyed doing for 16 years and couldn’t imagine my life without.
I grew up with acne until about the age of 26, so I have a long history with experimenting with skincare products and different therapies. I am now 34 and am in my supportive aging era. I like to avoid the term anti aging because I think it is a privilege to age and something I am grateful for. Lately I have been learning a lot about practices that can support healthy aging and minimize things like wrinkles, especially prematurely. I now incorporate derma rolling, face cupping, and face taping throughout the week. I do this after my skincare routine at night and it has been something I’ve really enjoyed doing for myself. I mindfully do it in a way that is slow and intentional. They have turned into mini rituals after a long day that I really look forward to. It’s also nice seeing the positive changes in my skin.
