Estrogen is very tied to histamine levels–both have an impact on each other. This is often a result of other underlying issues but is an important piece of the puzzle for many. If you look at the first image below, you will see that estrogen and histamines work in a feedback loop.
@larabriden says it best when she describes the relationship between estrogen and histamine:
“Estrogen stimulates mast cells to release histamine and down-regulates the DAO enzyme that clears histamine. At the same time, histamine stimulates the ovaries to make more estrogen. The net result can be a vicious cycle of estrogen → histamine → estrogen → histamine.”
Areas That Impact Estrogen:
-Thyroid health & ability to ovulate
-Blood sugar and insulin
-Gut health and digestion
-Mineral balance

There’s a lot more to histamines than hormones, but they do play a key role for many. Listen to the full Histamine Intolerance 101 episode on the Are You Menstrual? Podcast.
