5 Steps to Gut Healing

Healing your hormones is not as simple as taking a supplement, but requires an investigative approach that includes the gut (even if gut symptoms may not be present). ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I thought I’d go into what it looks like to actually take action on healing the gut since one of the biggest mistakes I see when it comes to gut healing is not addressing all of the essential areas.
⁣⁣⁣
If you don’t cover them all, it’s easy for inflammation and imbalances to persist. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This will of course be unique to the individual depending on what their GI map (digestive health test) says, but these are the main areas to focus on. ⁣⁣⁣

Please note, I am a dietitian but I’m not your dietitian. Consult with your healthcare practitioner before implementing any of the steps below.
⁣⁣⁣
🚨5 Areas To Focus On When Healing The Gut:⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
1️⃣Support digestion: this is my number one area because if we don’t support digestion, then large food particles can still get into the system and increase the burden on our immune systems plus feed the wrong bacteria. ⁣⁣⁣If you do nothing else, do this!

Favorite Ways To Support Digestion

  • Digestive Bitters: take before and/or after meals (Urban Moonshine is a great brand)
  • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar: take 1=3tsp before and/or after meals

2️⃣Eradicate parasites/pathogenic bacteria/yeast: in order to rebalance the environment in the gut, it’s essential to get rid of overgrowth and anything that shouldn’t be there. Just doing this and not the other steps doesn’t work though. ⁣⁣⁣

Favorite Ways To Eradicate

  • Herbal antimicrobials
  • Saccharomyces boulardii
  • Coffee enemas

You really have to know exactly which parasites/pathogenic bacteria you have since there are specific herbs and probiotic strains that can help get rid of them. I use a GI map test for this.
⁣⁣⁣
3️⃣Repopulate beneficial bacteria: as you are getting rid of microbes that shouldn’t be there, you have to make sure you are repopulating the gut with beneficial bacteria. ⁣⁣⁣

Favorite Ways To Repopulate

  • A high quality spore based probiotic
  • Eating plenty of pre-biotic rich foods

4️⃣Support the immune system: infections and imbalances in the gut are hard on the immune system. Sometimes clients will have an underactive immune system and other times it’s in overdrive. Supporting appropriately is important for avoiding future infections. ⁣⁣⁣

Favorite Ways To Support Immune System

  • Colostrum
  • Gut healing herbs such as L-glutamine, marshmallow root
  • Anti-inflammatory roots like turmeric and ginger

5️⃣Reduce lifestyle stressors: this is one of the most essential steps. Chronic stress can cause gut issues in the first place. ⁣⁣

Favorite Ways To Reduce Stress

  • sleep 8 hours⁣⁣⁣
  • minimize alcohol (also increases estrogen)⁣⁣⁣
  • get into a relaxed state daily (journaling, meditation, deep breathing)⁣⁣⁣
  • move throughout the day⁣⁣⁣
  • avoid inflammatory foods/foods you react to⁣⁣⁣
