What doesn’t potassium do? It can help support our bones by reducing the amount of calcium we lose in the urine. It’s also an important part of storing glucose as glycogen in our liver.
This may not seem like a huge deal, but we need to have glycogen stores in order to keep our blood sugar stable during times when we aren’t eating (between meals and when we are sleeping). When we don’t have enough glucose stored in the liver, it can be stressful for our bodies and will cause them to compensate. This leads to a stress response in the body and is a huge reason many people do not sleep well.
So not only will potassium help shuttle glucose into your cells when you’re eating, it also supports your blood sugar when you’re sleeping via the glucose it helps to store in the liver.
